Quick Thoughts

This could be a fantastic deal in the right scenario.

I was targeted for the top end at 45% off the purchase of points.

This means that if I purchase 3,000 points or more, I’ll pay just 0.715c per point ($0.00715). That’s a fantastic deal for Wyndham points!

Our Reasonable Redemption Value for Wyndham points is 1.01c per point. It is possible to do even better in some cases.

Personally, this sale caught my eye because of an upcoming trip where I could book a Vacasa vacation rental. Specifically, after seeing the sale, I looked up a 3-bedroom Vacasa rental that would run about $634 per night all-in with taxes and fees. That means the average nightly rate is about $211 per bedroom per night. Wyndham charges 15,000 points per bedroom per night for Vacasa rentals costing up to $250 per bedroom per night. That means it would cost me 45,000 points per night to book this particular rental. If I were to buy the points on sale right now, at 0.715c per point, it would cost $321.75 per night to buy the points for that rental — almost 50% off the cash rate.

That wasn’t a cherry-picked example but rather a real one that I found with about 2.5 minutes of effort. There are surely plenty of other Vacasa situations where you might be able to get somewhere in the vicinity of 1.5c per point. See full details about booking Vacasa vacation rentals with Wyndham Rewards points in this post.

Of course you may do even better if you find the right deal for a hotel. I nearly booked the Wyndham New Yorker for a trip to the city at some point this fall when cash rates were outrageous and it would have yielded around 2c per point. Under normal circumstances, that property is probably only a lukewarm deal even with sale-price points, but it really depends on your dates. Keep in mind that Wyndham also has a number of timeshare-type vacation club properties, many of which are bookable with points. There are also some all-inclusive properties in the Caribbean that could be a good deal depending on dates.

If you’re into a tiny bit of arbitrage, with this sale you could buy 60,000 points for $429 if you’re targeted for the 45%-off rate. I believe that you can still transfer 60,000 points from Wyndham to Caesars through the end of the year (oddly, my Caesars account already reflects the 30,000-point cap for a transfer to Wyndham, which is going to be the new cap beginning in 2025, but the Wyndham side still shows the ability to transfer 60,000 points to Caesars). Caesars points can then be used at a value of $0.01 per point for a lot of things, including room rates, some show tickets, and even betting with rewards via the Caesars Sportsbook app.

The Wyndham Earner Business card can make earning Wyndham points relatively easy given its 8x points at gas stations and 5x on utilities. Still, I might buy some points in this sale as the 0.715c price point and low effort required.

Notably, the annual limit for purchasing points has been increased to 200,000 points for this sale (the current annual limit is typically 100,000 purchased points). Sure enough, I see the ability to buy 200,000 points for $1,430.

I don’t know as though I’ll buy 200K points, but it’s great to see points available in such a useful quantity. That could be enough for a nice length of stay even if you’re buying the points for the whole thing.
