Wow. That was fast.
Just eight days ago, Alaska Airlines announced that its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines was complete. As part of that announcement, Alaska said that miles transfers between the programs would be possible within a matter of weeks.
They evidently meant “week” as it’s now possible to make 1:1 transfers between the programs.
What’s Happened
- It’s now possible to transfer miles between Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines
- Transfers are 1:1 and are limited at 500,000 miles per transaction

Quick Thoughts
This may be the fastest implementation of any airline rewards program promise that I’ve ever seen. Obviously, folks were working behind the scenes to set this up before the merger was announced as complete.
There’s no limit to the total amount of miles that you can transfer, but there is a 500,000-mile limit per transaction. The website says that it may take up to 72 hours for the transferred miles to show up, would love to hear some data points on how long it’s taking in reality (it seems to be instant based on the initial comments below).
Congrats to those of you who bet big (like Greg) during the last Amex-Hawaiian transfer bonus. Enjoy those Alaska miles!
