Today I discovered a handy feature of the World of Hyatt app: you can click a button to display the address of your hotel in the local language. That was very helpful when getting in a taxi in Japan today and one that I instantly wished all hotel apps offered.
I have no idea how long Hyatt’s app has had this feature — maybe it’s been around forever and I’m among the last to know about it. Still, I figured that this could be a helpful piece of info for readers who didn’t know about it.
We hopped in a taxi this afternoon in Japan and couldn’t easily explain the address of our hotel. I actually often lean on Uber or other ride share apps specifically because I’ve run into the situation more than once before where I’ve been in a country with a different alphabet and only had the name and address of my hotel written in English. That’s just not always useful.
The driver didn’t seem to understand the address of the hotel when I showed it to him in the Hyatt app, but that’s when I noticed a link I’d never paid attention to before. If you click on the address of your hotel, it brings up a map tool in the Hyatt app and underneath the name and address of the hotel in your language, there is a link to “show in local language”.
That button changed the entire map to Japanese and the driver immediately knew where we were going — problem solved.
Again, maybe this feature has been around for years and I’d just never noticed, but it seemed like a really simple and useful innovation. I have many times avoided taxis in favor of rideshare apps specifically because of my inability to provide the address I need in the local language. The next time I’m in that situation and staying at a Hyatt, it’ll be easier to manage!
