United has launched an award sale that’s only available for cardholders. It’s giving the opportunity to book one-way flights for 30,000 MileagePlus miles to/from Tahiti or 40,000 miles to/from Australia and New Zealand, but there’s a catch – that pricing is only available for economy flights.

- Tahiti (Papeete) – 30,000 miles
- Australia (Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane) – 40,000 miles
- New Zealand (Auckland) – 40,000 miles

Flying across the Pacific to Tahiti, Australia or New Zealand in economy isn’t going to be the most comfortable experience you’ll ever have, but for only 30,000 or 40,000 MileagePlus miles it might be worth it for some people, especially if you’re looking for award availability for several people.
Award availability does look like it could be good. For example, in late June/early July, there’s 40k availability from San Francisco to Sydney every day that week. That includes a nonstop flight between the two cities.
Note that you have to book by May 30, but travel dates can be from July 1 to December 12. Bear in mind that it’ll be winter and spring Down Under, so depending on where you visit the weather might not be as good as hoped for.
