Greg’s top 10 picks (my favorite card offers)

Chase currently dominates my top picks. The new 100K Sapphire Preferred offer is my #1 consumer card pick, and the New United Business card 125K offer is my #1 business card pick, followed in the #2 spot by the 200K IHG business card offer.

Below you’ll find my picks and a dash of analysis for the top 5 consumer card offers and the top 5 business card offers.

Top Credit Card Offers

Background

Our Best Credit Card Offers page always shows the best offers sorted overall and within each card issuer by estimated first year value. This is a great non-biased way to compare credit card offers, but it misses nuances such as whether or not the rewards are easy to use, whether or not the card is worth keeping long term, etc. With this monthly series, I list my top consumer offers and top business offers, but with a small dash of analysis for each.

Top 5 Consumer Card Offers

Chase Sapphire Preferred: 100K

Card Offer and Details
100K Points ⓘAffiliateThis is an affiliate offer. Frequent Miler may earn a commission if you are approved for this offer
100K after $5K spend in 3 months$95 Annual Fee
Information about this card has been collected independently by Frequent Miler. The issuer did not provide the details, nor is it responsible for their accuracy.
FM Mini Review: Great signup bonus. Unlocks ability to transfer points to hotel & airline partners. Solid option to pair with fee-free Ultimate Rewards cards such as the Freedom cards, Ink Business Cash, and Ink Business Unlimited.
Earning rate: 5X Travel booked through Chase Travel℠ (2X all other travel) ✦ 5X Lyft through 9/30/27 ✦3X Dining ✦ 3X Select streaming services ✦ 3X Online grocery ✦ 10% annual point bonus
Base: 1X (1.5%)
Travel: 2X (3%)
Dine: 3X (4.5%)
Other: 3X (4.5%)
Card Info: Visa Signature issued by Chase. This card has no foreign currency conversion fees.
Noteworthy perks: Primary auto rental collision damage waiver ✦ Free DoorDash DashPass through 2027 ✦ $10 off each month on one non-restaurant orders from DoorDash ✦ Transfer points to airline & hotel partners ✦ $50 back for hotel stays booked through Chase per cardmember year in the form of a statement credit

This is an awesome offer for an excellent card.

With this card, Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth 1.25 cents each when redeemed for travel through Chase Travel. Additionally, if anyone in your household has the Sapphire Reserve card, you can move points to that card and then they’ll be worth 1.5 cents each through Chase Travel.

A better use of Chase Ultimate Rewards points is to transfer to select hotel and airline partners when you find great award deals. My favorite option is to transfer points to Hyatt since Hyatt points are often super-valuable for Hyatt’s own hotels. Other good options include:

  • Transfer to United or Air Canada to book Star Alliance awards
  • Transfer to Air France / KLM or Virgin Atlantic to book SkyTeam awards (including to fly Delta)
  • Transfer to British Airways, Finnair, or Qatar to book oneworld awards (including to fly AA or Alaska Airlines)
Chase's 5/24 Rule: With most Chase credit cards, Chase will not approve your application if you have opened 5 or more cards with any bank in the past 24 months.
To determine your 5/24 status, see: Easy Ways to Count Your 5/24 Status. The easiest option is to track all of your cards for free with Travel Freely.

American Airlines: 70K after first purchase

Card Offer
70K Miles Non-AffiliateThis is NOT an affiliate offer. We always present the best offer even when it means less revenue for Frequent Miler
70K miles after 1st purchase and paying the annual fee within 90 days $99 Annual Fee
Recent better offer: Up to 75K: 60K miles after first purchase and 15K after adding an authorized user and making one purchase on that card [Expired 2/24/24]

This is a fantastic bonus considering the fact that it doesn’t require any significant spend. Plus, this may be the last chance to get a welcome bonus for this card… ever. In 2026, Citi will become the exclusive issuer of American Airlines cards. At that point, or perhaps sooner, this Barclays will stop offering this card. Get it while you can.

Hilton Surpass: 130K + free night

Card Offer
Limited Time Offer - 130K Points + free night certificate ⓘAffiliateThis is an affiliate offer. Frequent Miler may earn a commission if you are approved for this offer
130K points and a free night certificate after $3K spend within the first 6 months. Terms apply.
(Offer Expires 4/29/2025)$150 Annual Fee
Information about this card has been collected independently by Frequent Miler. The issuer did not provide the details, nor is it responsible for their accuracy.
Recent better offer: (Expired 7/31/24) 130K points + free night certificate after $3K spend within the first 6 months.

This combination of 130,000 points plus a free night after only $3,000 spend in 6 months is hard to beat! Hilton’s free night certificates can be used at nearly any Hilton hotel worldwide and at many Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) when standard rooms are available. A great option is for a couple to each apply so that you’ll have the opportunity to get 2 free nights plus the ability to spend $15K on each card for additional free nights.

Capital One Venture: 75K + $250 Travel Credit

Card Offer and Details
75K Miles + $250 travel credit ⓘFriend-ReferralThis is a friend-referral offer. A member of the Frequent Miler community may earn a referral bonus if you are approved for this offer
75k miles after $4k spend within first 3 months + $250 Capital One Travel credit$95 Annual Fee
Information about this card has been collected independently by Frequent Miler. The issuer did not provide the details, nor is it responsible for their accuracy.
FM Mini Review: This card earns 2 "miles" per dollar, which are worth exactly 1 cent each toward travel. This makes the return on spend similar to a 2% cash back card (though in this case you must redeem your miles to offset travel in order to get 1 cent per mile). One big advantage over cash back: Capital One allows transfering their "miles" to airline miles & hotel points. Click here for our complete card review
Earning rate: 2X miles everywhere ✦ 5X miles on hotels, vacations rentals and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel
Base: 2X (2.9%)
Other: 5X (7.25%)
Card Info: Mastercard issued by CapOne. This card has no foreign currency conversion fees.
Noteworthy perks: Receive up to $120 application fee credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® ✦ Redeem miles for travel at value of 1 cent per mile ✦ Convert "miles" to airline miles & hotel points ✦ No foreign transaction fees

The Venture Rewards card earns 2 transferrable points per dollar for all eligible spend, and it has no foreign transaction fees. That makes this a very good choice for anyone who wants to keep things simple with a single card that earns valuable rewards for all spend. That said, some will prefer the Venture X card since it includes extra perks that you won’t get with this Venture card.

Amex Gold: 90K

Card Offer
90K points ⓘFriend-ReferralThis is a friend-referral offer. A member of the Frequent Miler community may earn a referral bonus if you are approved for this offer
90K points after $6K in purchases in the first 6 months. Terms apply. (Rates & Fees)$325 Annual Fee
Information about this card has been collected independently by Frequent Miler. The issuer did not provide the details, nor is it responsible for their accuracy.
Recent better offer: 100K after $6K in the first 6 months + 20% back at restaurants for the first 12 months up to $250 back [Expired 11/10/24 - referrals only]

The Amex Gold Card has been a favorite of ours since it debuted with its 4X dining and grocery categories (see above for details). Note that the alternate 75K Resy offer is potentially even better for those who spend a lot on dining.

Top 5 Business Card Offers

Applying for Business Credit Cards: You must have a business to apply, but even a simple sole proprietorship will work. It's likely that you have a business even if you don't realize it.
More:You must have a business (but you probably do): In order to apply for a business credit card, you must have a business. That said, it's common for people to have businesses without realizing it. If you sell items at a yard sale or on eBay, for example, then you have a business. Similar examples include: consulting, writing (e.g. blog authorship, planning your first novel, etc.), handyman services, owning rental property, renting on airbnb, driving for Uber or Lyft, etc. In any of these cases, your business is considered a Sole Proprietorship unless you form a corporation of some sort.
When you apply for a business credit card as a sole proprietor, you can use your own name as your business name, use your own address and phone as the business' address and phone, and your social security number as the business' Tax ID / EIN. Alternatively, you can get a proper Tax ID / EIN from the IRS for free, in about a minute, through this website.
Is it OK to use business cards for personal expenses? Anecdotally, almost everyone I know uses business cards for personal expenses. That said, the terms in most business card applications state that you should use the card only for business use. Also, some consumer credit card protections do not apply to business cards. My advice: don't use the card for personal expenses if you're not comfortable doing so.

United Business Card: 125K

Card Offer and Details
125K Miles ⓘAffiliateThis is an affiliate offer. Frequent Miler may earn a commission if you are approved for this offer
125K miles after $5K spend in first 3 months. Plus, earn an extra 5,000 miles after you add an authorized user to your account in the first 3 months your account is open.
(Offer Expires 5/7/2025)$150 Annual Fee
FM Mini Review: Decent perks such as enhanced access to United saver level economy awards makes this a keeper for some.
Earning rate: 2X at restaurants including eligible delivery services , gas stations, and office supply stores ✦ 2X United ✦ 2X United Hotels ✦ 2X on local transit and commuting, including taxicabs, mass transit, tolls, and ride share services
Base: 1X (1.3%)
Dine: 2X (2.6%)
Gas: 2X (2.6%)
Office: 2X (2.6%)
Other: 2X (2.6%)
Card Info: Visa Signature issued by Chase. This card has no foreign currency conversion fees.
Big spend bonus: $125 annual United travel credit after 5 United flight purchases greater than $100 each calendar year ✦ Earn up to 4,000 PQPs per year: 1 PQP per $20 spend ✦ 2 Economy Plus seat upgrade credits after $25K in purchases in a calendar year
Noteworthy perks: ✦ Improved economy saver award availability ✦ Unlocks complimentary elite upgrades on award tickets ✦ Free first checked bag ✦ Up to $50 in statement credits for United Hotels purchases up to two times per cardmember year ✦ Up to $100 in rideshare statement credits (up to $8/mo from January to November and up to $12 in December) Priority boarding ✦ No foreign exchange fees ✦ 2 United Club passes per year at anniversary ✦ Free DashPass for one year (must activate by 12/31/27) ✦ Primary auto rental collision damage waiver ✦ Up to $25 in TravelBank cash for eligible Avis or Budget car rentals up to two times per cardmember year ✦ 5,000 bonus miles at anniversary when you have this card and also a personal Chase United credit card. ✦ 25% back as a statement credit on United in-flight and Club Premium drink purchases ✦ One $10 Instacart credit per month when you have Instacart+ ✦ FareLock $25 per anniversary year

This is a great bonus for relatively low spend (for a business card). The card has decent perks for United flyers. I also like the fact that this card is potentially worth keeping long-term for anyone who also has a personal United card (including a no-annual-fee card) because this one offers 5,000 miles every year for those with both this card and a personal United card, plus it has a slew of rebates that could make this card a keeper.

Noteworthy perks: Anniversary free night e-certificate good at IHG properties up to 40K points per night ✦ Ability to add an unlimited number of points to a free night certificate to book a higher-level hotel ✦ Fourth night free on award stays ✦ 20% discount on points purchases ✦ Platinum elite status ✦ Up to $50 in United TravelBank cash per year (must register your card with your United account)

This is a fantastic offer for this card. Beyond the welcome bonus, this is a very good card to keep for the annual free night which can be topped-off with points (e.g. book a night that costs 60K points with a 40K free night plus 20K points). The certificate alone is easily worth the card’s annual fee, but the card also includes Platinum Elite status, up to $50 per year in United Airlines credits, and 4th Night Free award bookings.

Capital One Venture X Business Card: 150K

Card Offer
150K Miles ⓘAffiliateThis is an affiliate offer. Frequent Miler may earn a commission if you are approved for this offer

Recent better offer: 90K after $6K spend in 6 monthd (expired 1/17/24

This fee-free card belongs in every point collector’s wallet. It offers 5X for office supplies and 5X for phone service, cable TV, and internet (on up to $25,000 in total purchases in 5X categories annually). Many families would do well to setup their phone, TV, and internet bills to autopay from the Ink Business Cash card in order to earn 5X rewards without any effort whatsoever.

Even though Chase describes this as a cash back card, rewards are actually in the form of Ultimate Rewards points. Once you earn the points, you can cash them out for a penny each, but that’s not the best way to get the most value. A better option is to move points to a card that makes the points more valuable for travel (Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Ink Business Preferred). For example, you could move the points to your (or a household member’s) Sapphire Reserve card and then use points to pay for travel at 1.5 cents per point value, or you can transfer points to loyalty programs such as Hyatt, United, Air Canada, Air France/KLM, Virgin Atlantic, and more.
