It appears that Costco.com has now lowered the standard price for $500 Southwest Airlines gift cards to $429.99. This new price is $20 per card better than the regular price of $449.99 that we’ve been seeing from Costco for years and matches the discount that was offered during periodic sales.
While it’s terrific to see the lower price become standard, it also could herald even deeper discounts on sales in 2025, which would be an even bigger win for Southwest customers.

Quick Thoughts
This will obviously be a nice development for those who fly paid Southwest flights. The one downside is not being able to earn 3-5x on the airfare purchase, as these will code as a normal Costco purchases. That can be partially offset by using a 2x card like the Costco Visa, the Capital One Venture X or the Capital One Venture Rewards (also remember that you can use Mastercard and Discover on Costco.com purchases). If you have a Costco Executive membership you’ll also earn 2% back as that’s earned on third party gift card purchases as well.
It will be worth keeping an eye on what Costco does with the pricing on Southwest cards in 2025. It’s no secret that Southwest has been aggressively trying to bolster sagging income streams – I wouldn’t be surprised if, along with a lower regular price on gift cards through Costco, we also see even deeper discounts on short-term sales.
